Updated with photos – March and Rally for the NHS – 7th March 2012

Despite opposition from pretty much everybody who doesn’t have a financial interest in privatising the NHS the government is pressing ahead with its Health and Social Care Bill.

The bill is currently in the House of Lords and is proving an embarrassment to the government, who appear to be ploughing ahead merely to save face. They don’t have the support of the medical profession and they don’t have the support of the public.

It’s not too late to make a difference.

UPDATE 08/03/2012 – A few photos from the march. There’s a report and some video on The Guardian’s website: Save our NHS rally: thousands march in health bill protest

The TUC and Unison have organised a rally on Wednesday evening in Westminster. There are feeder marches to the rally, including one starting at five o’clock in Tavistock Square, just around the corner from Euston Tower,

A branch delegation will meet in the Euston Tower foyer at four thirty.

Andrew Lansley is already too embarrassed to allow the press to accompany him, or NHS staff to talk to him, when he visits hospitals. This footage shows him scuttling away from a retired GP at the Royal Free Hospital on Monday afternoon:

The government can still be defeated on this most important of bills. Help get the message to them on Wednesday evening.
