PCS Euston at World Aids Day 2009

Presenting the collection to Simon at The Terrence Higgins Trust

To mark World Aids Day (WAD) on 1st December 2009 we ran a stall in the lift lobby of the H.M. Revenue & Customs (HMRC) office at Euston Tower. To say we were pleased with the response would be an understatement. Red ribbons were everywhere, so many that we ran out and had to go back to the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) to collect some more. Much literature about THT and World Aids Day was distributed and we collected the remarkable sum of £238.50.

In addition to the THT/WAD literature we also distributed flyers for:

  • Unite Against Fascism,
  • the National Climate March on 5th December,
  • Love Music/Hate Racism’s party on 15th December,
  • the branch’s own Ban Bullying leaflet (we had a few left over from National Ban Bullying Week),
  • flyers for the current PCS General Secretary election (along with ‘Vote Serwotka’ flyers: Mark was nominated by the branch.)

We were handing those out as the not-quite-legendary ‘PCS Euston Activism Party Pack’.

Well, you never know, it might catch on.

Claire Keenan (Branch Secretary) and Dave Plummer (Branch Equality Officer and PCS Proud’s London rep.) visited the Terrence Higgins Trust today to present them with the collection. More accurately, we presented them with the bank receipts for the collection, but that doesn’t sound anywhere near as glamorous.

Thank you so much to all those who contributed, both members and non members. We were staggered by the collection. Top marks to the lot of ya’. HIV is one of the few infections that really can be eradicated by education and your contribution will help bring that eradication a little bit closer.
